It's too bad that these stones cannot be upgraded to an epic quality. It should have at least be upgraded to lvl 630 to be in par with heroic dungeon trinkets. Otherwise it's just a mandatory item to carry in your bag in order to do transmutes etc

Currently the proc on this activates off of certain non-damaging, non-healing abilities. It constantly goes off when I activate "Death's Advance" with my Death Knight alchemist.

About a week ago I discovered that the mats for this on my server averaged about 15-19g to make. That being said, since you can vendor Дренорский философский камень for 25.31g that is roughly a 6-10g profit PER ITEM.
Though it is quite tedious and rather boring, I have made about 60,000g in the past week or so making these and just selling them to a vendor (could probably make more if you DE'd them).
So if you can get your hands on the mats for these cheaply, you can make a lot of money by simply creating a large amount of these to vendor. Best of luck!
Here is my current guide to how I decide whether to buy the mats for this. These prices are typical for the Bleeding Hollow server, but haven't checked the going prices on other servers....

Vendor price seems to have been reduced to 21g 22s 62c
That said, with Alchemical Catalyst being under 4g I still leveled Alchemy 1-700 by making around 700 of these for almost no expenditure of gold!

Probably can be a hard one, though Arei makes good tank.It will go north through edge of Irontree Woods to the road.Once on the road 3 Treants attack, after defeating them the quest is complete.

Great quest soloed at 56 druid was doing fine until horde dicided to fight him, and yep I healed him and viola now Im pvp the fight is on with NPC and the damn horde. We managed to kill the horde and the elementals and contimued on with the quest. Lo and behold who was waiting at the end? the horde we both had low health and my mana was depleated, but had just finshed the quest when he slid in for the kill. So if youo are any lower than 56 bring a friend pref a warlock or a healer.

as a rogue i had a problem dealing with the three elementals that spawned.They would give mee 2 dots, one stacking which would go up to 100 every 5, and the other was ~100 every 10 seconds. They hurt... I killed them but i had to sit and eat, and as i did the quest failed as the tree ran off.

Soloed as a 55 rogue. It's a piece cake, didn't even use any cooldowns. Just let him tank one as you fight the 1-2 others :)Quest turn in is at 85,44 in Ashenvale.

easily soloed as a 50 Feral Druid, Arei can do it on his own. Free7300 xp.

This quest is part of a chain beginning with "Flute of Xavaric" http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=939.
You need to complete the quest "Purified!" http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=4442 and get the Flute of the Ancients which summons the NPC who gives this quest.

Soloed as level 50 (!) druid. Easy mode. just walk around in stealth and heal the big dude if needed. Im also balance so i summoned my awesome treants if needed :) May go a bit slow, but hey, good xp ;)

The quest has been very nerfed, you used to take the current path out of the Irontree woods south all the way along to Ashenvale. Along the way starting as soon as you exited Irontree you'd be ambushed by those first 3 treants.
A bit further along you'd be ambushed by some cultists from Jadenar, further along still you'd get ambushed by 3-4 Jadefire Satyr's. All in all it was a very difficult quest, and was very difficult to solo. I would have counted it to be one of the most fun too.

As of patch 2.3 this quest now gives 10550 xp. Rep gained is still the same though :)

If the escort NPC wont spawn when you're using the flute, be sure to kill any mobs close to the ruins :)

I did this in 2.3 and noticed that mobs behave in a weird way towards Arei - if you follow him at a nice range no mob will aggro him. Always when I got close to him the nearby mobs attacked Arei. This is from a stealther's point of view, since I didn't pull any mobs while prowling in cat form. Hope this helps some of the reading rogues and druids - just stay at about 20 yard range and it's a walk in a corrupted park.

after you have escorted Arei to the road, the fastest way to kayneth stillwind ( quest completion NPC) would be to run back up to talonbranch glade, take the hippo back to emerald sanc then run south to ashenvale then east to kayneth cords are 85 44

Yeah, I've always hated any escort quests because the escortee always seems to aggro everything in sight and, amazingly, way far off mobs that wouldn't aggro if you set fire to their feet. This guy though was able to do some of the heavy lifting. We did aggro a few mobs, but I took most of the damage. He did tank well. Didn't really seem like he took any damage even as the tank. The kickers of this quest are the two ancient pi.ssed-off protectors that appear and want a piece of Arei.
But, as lvl 53 hunter, it was worth the effort. Scored like 10,000 something xp. Nice!

I also noticed that when you have escorted Arei safely to the road and that part of the quest is finished, he will still help you kill mobs when you are fighting them close to him. Nice guy eh ;)

Quest is terrible to solo with a frost mage. Level 55 and I get ambushed by 3x frost immune elementals. Can't poly them, can't nova them, and can't slow them; I ended up tanking 2 of them and I have little over 2k hp. I was dead fairly quickly. Poor quest design for this class & spec.
Granted, it can probably be done if you pop your elemental and have him tank one (if he can even pull aggro with the mobs being immune to his attacks) and then icy veins and fireball down the one remaining mob before switching to either of the other two. Might be possible, but I didn't bother trying again.

Use flute at confirmed location, 49, 29.
The big tree, Arei, spawned on my first try.Nothing hostile spawns when you use the flute.
When you start the quest, Arei starts walking and stops two times during the escort where hostile mobs spawn 3 at a time. First when going over the river, and then at the end when you have reached the road.Arei doesnt aggro everything at his path, and if you aggro anything first he doesnt care to stop up and help you out, so be careful. I found it easiest to just follow him around on my mount.
The flute also stays in your inventory after you deliver it in Forest Song. You have to delete it yourself.

It was ... kinda bugged for me. once summoned, he started to hit me, but once he was attacked by a bear, i could pick up the quest from him. then, along the way to "safety" he was hitting me all the way. such a friendly tree, i must say! (yeah, and by the way he was green)

I was able to start this quest without doing the flute quest first, im guessing sum one had already summond him but as a 57 ret pally this quest was compleatly easy and well worth the 10k exp to get me to 58 :D outlands here i come

If you don't have the second flight path in Ashenvale yest, the fastest way to get to the quest ender (yes, I know this is not a proper word) is to fly to Azshara then run back into Ashenvale, which works a lot better if you don't have your epic mount. After you get there, you can just fly out.

My experience - Arei aggros random mobs. Some were close enough to aggro but they seemed to ignore him, others were further away but still came running over to attack. Very weird. All in all, had to clear the following mobs in the process:Irontree Stomper - 8Toxic Horror - 3Irontree Wanderer - 3Withered Protector - 1
Keep in mind this is what I cleared. Might have been others Arei took care of while I had my hands full. In spite of the number of things I had to kill, this was one of the easiest escort quests I've done because of how capable Arei was of defending himself. Also, as others mentioned, huge amount of XP (10K+) is a definite bonus. Dinged 60 on completion :)

Arei has a much smaller aggro radius than you (at a comparable level), so mobs can in fact walk right through him. Stay away from them yourself and kill the ones that he does aggro. All in all not a difficult quest apart from the final three treants, just time-consuming like most escort quests.

After returning to the game I was going back and tying up loose quest ends, this being one of them. Lvl 75 now and I got 1050 exp and 385 rep with Darnassus, no rep with any other factions.
