I saw the link from MMO-Champ that mentioned the new pets, I am also seeing this egg. I am hoping this is like the oracles and that we can hatch our new pets. Even though it is a long wait, I love opening it and getting excited for a split second! :D

So far I have gotten two of these eggs to drop in three days, still waiting on my first to hatch. One came from a Adult Direhorn and the second from a Devilsaur hatchling. To the person doubting me I can assure you I am telling the truth. I am running in a group with one other person, I took the first and they took the second since they are unique. We are farming a little over a thousand bones a day.

I ended up getting a Поводья зеленого древнего ящера about an hour ago. So now it appears that there is a chance to get 1 of 3 raptors from every egg (Red, Green, and Black), and I'm still not sure if its possible to not get anything from them hatching as well. Hopefully it's guaranteed as the eggs are already pretty rare.

Mine hatched today - Red Primal Raptor. Took me quite awhile to get another egg, about 1000 bones worth (some done in a group with the larger dinos, mostly done alone with the smaller ones). I would hope there is some guarantee of non-junk item based on the rarity of the egg.

My friends both got eggs on the second day the patch went live, one getting Поводья красного древнего ящера the other getting Поводья зеленого древнего ящера, I had to farm for a couple more days to get mine, It took me killing about 140 of the Direhorn Hatchlings to get it to drop, will update when it hatches!
Update: I opened it and also got a Поводья красного древнего ящера from it, So I believe it is a guaranteed drop rate.

I got this today from my fourth kill on one of the small devilsaurs. Just based on the facts that the small mobs that drop these are easily soloed, and the drop rate isn't at all prohibitive (it might take a while, but it's doable) one of two things will happen. Either everyone that wants one will have one and they won't be a big deal, or they'll lower the drop rate like they did the Dinomancers' pet drops. I wouldn't be surprised to see 1% from the big guys and 0.1% from the little guys.

just a little fact here you can be very unlucky my friend has gotten 3 black primal raptors in a row.i have gotten a red then green and the one i only want black still hasnt dropped so it just takes a while.and i would advise having an egg on all characters so much faster mounts and then even if you get same ones then higher chance of the one you really want :P(my friend has now gotten black primal raptor 4 times in a row i think he might be bugged)

As of patch 5.3, this and the Primal Egg from which it is generated is rare quality (was previously common quality).
Given the drop rate and the contents, it's definitely deserved!

After farming numerous Warbringers, World Bosses (Nalak and Oondasta), bones on the Isle of Giants and inside the Throne of Thunder, I finally managed to get my first egg from my Treasures of the Thunder King bag and then another two in subsequent weeks. There's a chance to get this from any of the bosses in the Throne of Thunder.
Given they are unique, you will only be able to hold one of these at a time but after three days, the egg will hatch into one of three colours - black, green or red. However, they can be farmed on numerous toons.
Egg one - Reins of the Black Primal Raptor
Egg two - Reins of the Green Primal Raptor
Egg three - Reins of the Red Primal Raptor
It's a shame you can loot more than one of the same colour though, especially since you can only learn one and cannot sell or trade it. I must have been really lucky though as I didn't get any duplicates even though I only farmed these on one character.

I can confirm that Young Primal Devilsaurs drop an egg. Just got my egg from a green (they do not look green at all) Devilsaur young. The green ones seem to have the most % of drop rate of hatchlings. But the Primal Devilsaurs have the most chance to drop it.
Edit: My egg just hatched. Got the Black Primal Raptor. But a Black Young Primal Devilsaur just dropped a 2nd egg for me. This one hatches on Wednesday 19th,2013 in June. Do NOT give up,it just makes it worse.Good Luck!

Three days ago i picked up four eggs with a friend of mine, i joked with him that they'd all be red raptors (i have the savage raptor and the red ones are the same except for the sadle) and thus far i have been correct out of the three eggs that have hatched so far ALL of them have been the red raptor, i used the first one, then i sold the second one to him for 1400 gold and had to vendor the other, currently waiting on the fourth egg, but i'm guessing the red raptor's drop rate has been buffed or i'm the unluckiest person ever to get one of these damn eggs.
EDIT: Ok since certain rude people started insulting me I will explain how I sold the eggs...
I looked into the egg, saw it was a raptor I didn't want, closed the egg and traded it for gold (The egg was still marked as tradeable with people who were able to loot it).
Also I picked up one egg on four different toons, that is how I had four eggs.

I created an account just to post a comment out of utter frustration. I have just opened my fourth cracked primal egg to find my fourth red primal raptor.
Does RNG hate me? I have looted 1 egg per 1000 bones farmed, will most likely keep going but anticipate a 5th and 6th and 7th red primal raptor if I get more eggs :(

I'm so over-joyed...three days ago I finally had a primal egg drop for me after putting in some serious time on this island, I'm a hunter so I farmed the Dinomancers too... I have no luck with drops like this, ever. So, basically I don't care what color I get...I'm happy, but I understand everyone elses frustration. The cool thing about farming for these eggs though is you get Lesser Charms, Direhorn Runts drop often, and you can collect dinosaur bones and get either a mount or a pet from the vendor. I got my Spectral Porcupine and kept farming and have enough for another...though I'm going to probably wait out that and get the other raptor mount eventually. ;o) Good luck!

There are 27 different combinations of raptors you can get on three attempts. I will label each according to their respective colors (Red (R), Green (G), Black (B)). The list is as follows:
Out of those 27 possibilities only 6 of them (listed in bold text) are unique, yielding 3 different colored raptors.
Therefore, the probability is 6:27, simplified to 2:9 or 22.22% chance of getting 3 unique raptors in a row from the Cracked Primal Egg.

To expand on what mcjkaiser said in response to mccdlibby:
It takes exactly one egg to get a new mount that you don't have if you don't have any of the three to start with..
After that, it takes an average (mean) number of one and a half eggs to get the next mount that you don't have. (Of course, you can't have half an egg. The mean of a distribution is weird that way, it may not be in the sample set..Just go with it for now.)
After that it takes an average (mean again) of three eggs to get the next mount that you don't have.
Sum these up, and you find that you can expect to need five and a half eggs, except there are no half eggs, so around five or six tries.
I'm assuming that the drops are memoryless, just a straightforward loot roll, and a failure does not change your odds. So, for instance, if you are trying for your third mount, and you get a mount that you already have, you can expect to still need to try three more eggs.
There is a lot of chatter in regard to drop mechanics to the effect that "The RNG hates me." That is not the case. It's the underlying distribution for the drop mechanic that hates you, not the RNG. It's called the Geometric Distribution, and it is perverse. (There's actually two very closely related "Geometric Distributions", the one that measures trials until you succeed seems more applicable here. The other is number of failures.)
To be sure, RNGs can be flawed, for one thing, they are generally not RNGs, they are PRNGs, but even a perfect RNG, say a fair roll of a die, behaves according to this distribution.
How is it perverse? Uhm, well, counter to some of your experiences, "most" people will get whatever is dropping relatively quickly. The geometric distribution is skewed toward early success, and has a long but decreasingly improbable "tail" of continuous failure with no upper limit.
Of three more or less commonly used measures of central tendency , the mean represents the expected value, how many times you would typically have to try to get the drop. If you cut this distribution out of an infinitely long piece of cardboard, the mean is also where it would balance on your finger. But the mean as the expected value is misleading in that it is balancing a lump at the front end against a very long thin tail at the other.
When dealing with people, often the median is more useful. The median is where the 50th percentile lies, in this case, the number were half the people have had success. For the geometric distribution, the median is always less that the mean. That means that in any drop situation, more than half the people attempting it get the item before they can reasonably expect to. Hence the poor shmucks in the fail tail balancing them out by continually failing.Someone(s) have to be the samples that take forever.
Another measure is the mode, the largest sample set, or "biggest bucket". The geometric distribution has a well behaved mode in that it is unique and is easy to determine. The mode for loot rolls is always one try, the first bucket. Yes, in any drop in WoW, the number of people who get the item on their first attempt is greater than any other "on their nth attempt". Totally counter-intuitive, until you realize that it isn't actually saying much, only that the number of people who succeed on their nth try is continually declining.
Caveats:
(1) The infinitely long vanishingly improbably tail is in fact theoretically true, but in practice, you can't farm an infinite number of drops of anything, no matter how obsessive you are. Odds are, you won't have to, but in terms of what the distribution actually is, the tail is truncated by people who quit trying for whatever reason; giving up trying, quitting WoW, item is removed from the game, death (I guess that would be quitting WoW). The number of people who never see an item drop after trying for it is significant, and the geometric distribution does not account for that.
It also does not account for people who are still trying, but have not succeeded yet, other than in the general sense that they are somewhere in the tail, crawling outward. Strictly speaking, the Geometric Distribution is "of the people who have succeeded".
(2) Where the RNG does come in to play is there is a certain noise factor where the RNG samples, the loot rolls, do not strictly adhere to a uniform distribution. Imagine rolling a die a large number of times. You expect the count of the outcomes of each sample; one, two, three, four, five, and six; to be close, but you would be surprised if they were exactly the same.
When there are a large number of tries (trials), the noise is not a concern, but in the long tail with few people still trying, the strictly declining nth bucket size might not hold, and in the extreme, where only one or two people people took two hundred tries, noise will dominate, and some buckets will be empty.
(3) The Geometric Distribution holds for any single item dropping based on an independent loot roll. It does not hold if the loot roll is influenced by previous history. There have been allusions of Blizzard doing this in some circumstances, better odds after multiple failures but that does not appear to be the case with the Cracked Primal Eggs.
This does not refer to seeing or receiving another of an item you already have. The same distribution holds for your first receiving an item whether you are allowed to loot more or not or even see them again. Whether you receive more of the item is a different question and a different distribution.
In the case of multiple items of interest, these three raptor mounts in particular, the geometric distribution does not apply to the overall getting of all three as a whole. A geometric distribution is based on a success or failure of one outcome, and cannot account for incremental progress in any of three outcomes. But it does apply to each one individually, and they can be analyzed in sequence. These multiple drop circumstances are not rare in WoW, and can all be handled by treating them as successive individual drops.
(4) This particular writeup, and the comment it is in response to, assume that each outcome is equally likely. The WoWHead data suggests that this is close, but may not exactly be the case. For the cracked egg outcomes, it is close enough, but in some of the multiple drop situations in WoW, if there is significant variation in the outcome of each, it is useful to calculate different outcome sequences and the probability of each to determine the overall odds.
Rule of thumb, if the odds are close, the assumption that they are close will give you a close result. If one (or more) is an outlier, you will need to take into account the different odds. (see Треснутое яйцо)
